Guildford West students took part in a range of activities centred around this theme, including a treasure hunt for books in the gardens, a dress-up day where students dressed as their favourite book character, designing book covers and writing book reviews about their favourite books.
Principal Kerry Weston said each of the classes at Guildford West this year, were named after famous Australian and Indigenous Australian authors or illustrators, including Thomas Mayor, Corey Tutt, Jeanie Baker, Sean Tan, Mem Fox, Jasmine Seymour and Bronwyn Bancroft.
“During the week, students also explored books from these authors who are featured in our newly refurbished library,” she said.
Teachers and parents at Merrylands East Public also got into the swing of things, joining students and dressing up as a range of literary characters for their parade last Wednesday, with Harry Potters, wicked queens and even a Vincent Van Gogh character stealing the show.
