Chance to thank all on Aged Care Employees Day

AGED care superheroes across Australia are being thanked and celebrated for their dedication to our seniors on Aged Care Employees Day today, Wednesday, August 7.

Beauty Point Retirement Resort Padstow Heights aged care worker Alexandra McInally said she aspired to be the kind of carer whom she would want to care for her own grandparents.
She said that when she started out, she was a shy, quiet person but working in a supportive and meaningful field like aged care, had provided her with a nurturing environment to build confidence, communication skills and resilience.
“I love that I’m part of this community, to be able to help them in many ways has been rewarding, even if is just a quick hello in the morning,” she said.
“Throughout the day, I look for any opportunity to offer support and connect by having a chat as they are full of wonderful stories and life experiences.
“It’s very fulfilling to provide support, companionship and care to individuals who may need it the most and seeing the positive impact of your work is incredibly gratifying.”
Alexandra said however that managing diverse and complex needs of elderly clients could be challenging and having a staff team who communicated well and shared the workload was vital.
“The hardest challenge as an aged care worker is loss – their absence is felt for quite some time,” she said.
“If you want to have a meaningful impact on people’s lives, then join the aged care worker team and be one of the faces and hands that provide comfort, support and companionship and make a person’s later years as enjoyable as possible.”
