A professional player combining college tennis for University Tulsa in Oklahoma and playing on the ITF/ATP World Tour, the 23-year-old has completed a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science and will finalise his second degree in Arts and Psychology in May.
Kody has only been able to play the Pro Tour in college breaks for the last four-and-a-half years but despite that, has had some outstanding wins beating current 2022 Wimbledon Men’s Doubles Champion Max Purcell and had two very close losses to Rinky Hijikata who took a set off Rafa Nadal at the 2022 US Open.
“He was the youngest Australian and second youngest in the world to attain an ATP Men’s World ranking at 14 after qualifying and winning his first round of a $25,000 event,” Coach and Dad Glen Pearson said.
“He was also a member of the Australian Junior Team that competed at the World Junior Team Championships with Alex De Minaur and Alexi Popyrin in 2013.”
The St Lukes Revesby Primary School student comes from a sporting family who owned Lakemba Squash & Tennis Centre with Grandfather Len Pearson, Dad Glen and Uncle Graham Pearson all multiple district champions.
Home during breaks, Kody even won the 2020 Canterbury Bankstown District Tennis Champion Singles and Doubles with Glen as well as the Singles Championship again in 2022.
“My message to young players is to enjoy the process and trust it,” he said.
“Talent can create short term success but hard work sets the foundation for long term success. Dream big and work hard. Most importantly, have fun while you’re doing it.”
