Celebrating our children

CUMBERLAND Mayor Greg Cummings joined Granville Public School for a special breakfast and assembly (pictured) as part of celebrations for National Child Protection Week (September 1-7).

Run by Cumberland Child Protection Interagency, the event included a presentation of prizes to the winners of a child protection themed colouring in competition.
Celebrating the many ways, both big and small, that everyone can make a difference to the life of a child, Cr Cummings said National Child Protection Week is a time for people to reflect on child protection issues and promote the safety and well-being of young people.

“We care greatly about the future of children here in Cumberland, not just during Child Protection Week, but every day,” he said.
“Children deserve the right to feel safe and as adults we must create a safe environment where young people can thrive and reach their full potential. Importantly, children need to have people they can talk to and feel safe.”
