Handing out information regarding resources and services in the area, Cumberland Child Protection Interagency members included NSW Health’s Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS), Cumberland Council, Barnardos, NSW Police, Wesley Mission, Sage Community Services, Cumberland Multicultural Community Services and Auburn Diversity Services who will translate the resources into Dari and Urdu to reflect the cultural background of families at the school.
There were craft activities including making a ‘feelings wheel, a drumming circle set up by Woodville Alliance, an appearance by Poppy the Possum and an address from Mayor Lisa Lake.
Children were encouraged to ask questions and given showbags with info about keeping safe, including identifying five ‘safe’ adults.
Organisers thanked Sydney Markets for donating fruit for the breakfast and the council for donating 500 muffins and 500 baked goods which ran out.
IVPRS counsellor Sharon Oxley said: “We know children thrive when they grow up feeling safe, connected and supported in their family, community and culture.”
Celebrating Child Protection Week
EVERY child has the right to feel safe and supported and to celebrate this year’s Child Protection Week, Auburn Public School students and parents were treated to a breakfast and assembly.
