“It was really difficult to park before and this is going to make life easier for us and our customers who can pop in Monday to Wednesday mornings and peruse our items for sale,” he said.
An updated version of the classic shed in the backyard where the menfolk would gather, build or fix items and solve the world’s problems over a pint or a cuppa, the modern Men’s Shed is still the ideal gathering place for older men to share and pass on skills, to work on community projects together and to enjoy enjoy the company of others and bus trips away.
Bob said when the group was not repairing items, restoring furniture or making bird boxes for the council, they were crafting toys and household items for sale.
“At the moment, we have toy trucks, planter boxes, serving trays, coat-hanger hooks, butcher blocks, cheese boards and other hand-made wooden and metal products that are all affordably priced,” he said.
“Our butcher blocks sell for $60, mainly just to replace the cost of materials, but online they cost over $130.”
Welcoming those with dementia and disabilities, Bob is encouraging more men to join.
“It’s great being involved in such a range of useful projects,” he said.
“It definitely keeps you young and interested in life.”
