One motorist was allegedly detected at almost twice the speed, travelling at 134kmh in the sign-posted 70kmh speed zone. He was the first of four drivers booked for speeding along Roberts Road on Saturday, August 10, between 8.30-10.45pm.
After licence checks revealed his privileges to drive in NSW had been withdrawn, he was issued an infringement for $2,959 for exceeding the speed limit by over 45kmh and charged with driving while NSW privileges withdrawn.
Shortly after a P1 licence was stopped after travelling at 126kmh. He was issued with an infringement for $2,959 for exceeding the speed limit by over 45kmh, had his licence immediately suspended for six months and the vehicles number plates were seized for three months.
About 10.20pm, a male driving at 98kmh was issued with an infringement for $574 for exceeding the speed limit by over 20kmh, while at 10.45pm, another male driver was fined $1,097 for exceeding the speed limit by over 30kmh.
A NSW Highway Patrol spokesperson said speeding was one of the major factors for fatalities on the road and it was disappointing to see these motorists placing their lives and other lives at risk.
“Traffic and Highway Patrol Command will continue to monitor Roberts Road, Greenacre and increase patrols and enforcement when required. Please slow down,” he said.
A week later, a 24-year-old man was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously and breach of bail, after an alleged pursuit in Greenacre on Sunday evening.
