Catch ‘multi-sport’ fever

WOMEN are invited to discover the magic of exercise on the mind and body by taking part in the first ‘Aquathon’ hosted by the LAPD Triathlon Club as part of the NSW Government program ‘Her Sport, Her Way’.

On offer at Auburn’s Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre next month, the event will consist of a 2km run, 400m swim and than a 2km run and LAPD Triathlon Club President Ben Hill says the session will be a great opportunity to get a taste of running and swimming together.
“The option to split skill and fitness development across swimming and running removes some of the monotony of doing a single sport and reduces the risks of injury by spreading the use of different muscle groups,” he said.
“Developing different skills also opens up opportunities to engage in other multisport activities such as triathlon and adventure racing.”
The event is aimed at any female over 14, although a modified course could be introduced for younger participants if required, with hopes that 20 to 50 will register for the event.
“Our first priority is to give women the opportunity to participate in a fun, friendly event that promotes a healthy lifestyle and sense of accomplishment,” Hill said.
“We are also keen to generate an awareness of the activities that are available at the LAPD Triathlon Club and with Triathlon NSW.”
Recent events include a Womens Duathlon (cycling/running) with 10 participants and a Kids Tryathlon (swim/bike/run) with 50 participants.
