Stars in Queen Latifah role
Produced in Australia by John Frost and Suzanne Jones, this Australian production will premiere from August 20 at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre.
Powerhouse vocalist Casey is best known to Australian audiences after winning Australian Idol as a 16-year-old in 2004.
Since then Casey has flourished into one of the country’s most in demand performers. She continues to release music after her ARIA Number 1 debut album and tours extensively playing live around Australia.
She won the title on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2017 while also nurturing a stage career which has seen her cast in productions including ‘The Flower Children’, ‘The Sapphires’, ‘Rent’ and ‘We Will Rock You’.
“Chicago has everything that people love about Broadway, a story of fame, fortune and all that jazz, one show-stopping number after another and the most amazing dancing you’ve ever seen as well as the most sizzling score,” Producer Frost said.
“Starring as the irreverent and determined Roxie Hart, Natalie Bassingthwaighte is one of the country’s most versatile performers and joining her as the glamorous Velma Kelly, is musical theatre star Alinta Chidzey.”
Producer Jones added: “We cannot wait to see Casey, Natalie and Alinta make these iconic roles their own while supported by a slick ensemble cast.”
Set amidst the razzle dazzle decadence of the 1920s, ‘Chicago’ is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover and then hires Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer Billy Flynn to defend her.
Chicago is coming to the Capitol Theatre from August 20 and tickets start at $59.90.
