Business of Year thrilled

BARELY sleeping the night after the Inner West Local Business Awards presentation night, Alexander Spyridis, owner of The Italian Bowl on King Street, Newtown, is still in shock after winning the Best Restaurant category as well as being named Business of the Year.

Double win for The Italian Bowl

Operating the business with wife Jenny and father and mother-in-law Vince and Mary Muscolo, Alexander says the family is absolutely stoked.

“We didn’t see this coming at all,” he said.

“When they called out our name, I just melted; it was such a beautiful surprise.

“I spent all of the next day thanking my customers, my suppliers and all the others that deserve to share in this success. It’s always a group effort, you can’t do it on your own and I would especially like to publicly thank my wife Jenny who is the backbone of the business.”

It is not the team’s first win after entering for the first time last year and taking away a category award.

“When they called our name as winners of the restaurant category the other night, that was really enough,” Alexander said.

“But to be named Business of the Year, is just amazing considering the competition. We are just a casual dining premises offering wholesome food at affordable prices – we don’t even have a bar or anything fancy – we are just there to serve and make everyone feel as comfortable as possible, just like you were in my home.”
