Business back but needs support

ALMOST four months after the Covid pandemic forced the community into lockdown, most businesses have opened up but the hard work is still ahead as they rebuild and get shoppers back through their doors.

Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou said many people thought that once the restrictions were lifted it would be “happy days ahead – that’s not necessarily the case, it’s going to be tough but as a community we will pull through”.
He says residents have been embracing getting back to “some sort of normality” and it was “great to see people coming back out to support local business, with several shops full of excited customers”.
“It’s fantastic to see the smiles on people’s faces and business owners and employees happy again after what we have been through,” he said.
“We’re on our way back, but we can all still help.”
Mayor Christou is appealing to residents to “get out and spent local”.
“Small business is the backbone of the community and we all need to do our part and shop local,” he said.
“They offer so much more – they also employee locals and spend local – that’s money back into the community. So let’s support them.”
