From coaching the local junior team; to painting fresh lines on the pitch; to raising funds for new equipment, Australia’s dads are true unsung heroes in keeping community sport alive. Previous nominee and former Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs star Sam Perrett said it was great to see dads get recognition for their efforts.
“Every little bit helps and keeps sports alive, so it’s really cool to see dads get rewarded,” he said.
“I try to help out with my kids’ training whenever I can; my eldest and daughter plays AFL and my two younger boys play basketball, rugby league and soccer.
“There would be no community sport without the mum and dad volunteers so this award is fantastic; it’s a way to say thank you to the dads and give them encouragement just as they’re encouraging young players every week.”
With the winner announced just ahead of Father’s Day, nominations close on August 21.
The prize pack includes a Philips male grooming pack valued at over $1,000 and a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher to purchase new clothing or sporting equipment for the community sports club of choice.
Those who nominate the successful dad will also have the chance to win a Philips Prestige Shaver 9000 with Skin IQ Technology, valued at over $649.
