Bulldogs return home to Belmore

THE Bulldogs are heading back to town this Sunday to take on the St George-Illawarra Dragons at Belmore Sports Ground.

The clash kicks off at 2pm and will see the Bulldogs finally make it back to their spiritual home. They were scheduled to play the Wests Tigers last year and the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in 2020 at Belmore before both fixtures were cancelled due to Covid-19.
Back to Belmore Patron Luke Brailey said with elite rugby league only on display once a year at Belmore Sports Ground, it’s an opportunity not to be missed.
“Aside from the social benefits, an NRL game returns significant money into the local economy through spending at cafes, restaurants, eateries and retailers,” he said.
“Local businesses get a surge in foot traffic with an increase of up to 70 per cent in their walk-in trade on game day.
“It only comes around once a year and it’s an auspicious opportunity to showcase the history and heritage of this amazing facility and engage with the local community who can come and enjoy the footy. Given the number of Bulldogs and Dragons supporters, I venture to suggest that the game is going to be hugely successful.”
Back to Belmore Vice President Steven Cataldi said these sorts of events were great in terms of boosting morale in the community and delivered major flow-on effects for local businesses.
“This is a boost for business, a boost for visitors and a boon for the local economy,” he said.
“The NRL is a world-class competition, it goes on TV all around the world. The eyes of the world will be on Belmore hosting an NRL match on Sunday,” Mr Cataldi said.
