Building bans to likely lift upsets

THOSE peaceful Sunday mornings could again be shattered by jack hammering and drilling, ghetto blasting music from tradies on site, concrete trucks and cranes tearing around quiet streets.

Construction rules were extended during the Covid pandemic and have now been revoked however, Canterbury Bankstown Councillor Clare Raffan is concerned that NSW Planning Minister Anthony Roberts is again considering lifting restrictions to help tackle the housing shortage problem and further stimulate the economy.
Mr Roberts told developers that the Government was exploring its options.
Cr Raffan said residents were relieved they again had at least one day a week without noise and dust.
“What about the impact this decision will have on families and the wider community,” she said.
“Has he thought about the neighbourhood disputes that will occur, policing the noise complaints, or the mental anguish it will cause to hard-working people who just want a day of peace and quiet?” she said.
“I suppose he has a plan to reimburse councils and the police for monitoring the works on a Sunday.”
