Build links at social housing meetup day

MORE than 150 people have enjoyed becoming more connected with their community at the Riverwood Community Centre’s (RCC) Social Housing Engagement Day.

Helping residents to connect with local services, the day was also attended by representatives from NSW Police, the Land and Housing Corporation, Canterbury Bankstown Council, 3Bridges Community, Service NSW, Justice Support Centre, DCJ Housing and Customer Service, Commonwealth Aged Care Services, women’s, family and child advocacy services, drug health services and more, with the Covid vaccination bus also rolling in for the convenience of attendees.
RCC General Manager Matthew Martin said the day was a great opportunity to ensure essential information was made available to the people who needed it most.
“During the pandemic, we had to ensure our community was supported but the need has not gone away and as service providers, we wanted to bring together the community sector in Canterbury Bankstown to fill a much-needed gap for those most in need,” he said.
RCC’s Targeted Early Intervention Manager Salma Taleb says they are looking forward to being able to support more people in need by working closely with NSW Health, Police, Housing Services and Community Services in the area.
“Our goal is to see everyone in our community connected to at least one service provider that can check on their welfare and assist with pathways to other community services to meet their needs,” she said.
