Competing against a field of 2,000 athletes, the talented Milperra boys have been running for years, according to Mum Danielle, and training hard for the championships.
“They are both incredibly excited to be competing against Australia’s best cross country runners and Xavier is very determined to do well, training six days a week,” she said.
Already a NSW representative in AFL and Touch Football, Isaac is the school captain at Milperra Public School.
A former Bankstown Little Athletics Club representative sprint hurdler herself with husband Peter more into footy, Danielle said the boys were much tougher than her.
“They’ve both got what it takes to go all the way and we’re very proud of them for this achievement,” the mother of five said, adding that daughters Claudia, 13, Stella, 9 and Lydia, 2, were dancers who just ran for fun.
Also representing NSW in the Australian Cross Country Championships, are Menai’s Maximos Papacostantinou, Panania’s Matilda Richards, Villawood’s Liya Daigher and Milperra’s Amelia Behringer.
A member of Illawong-Revesby Workers Athletics Club, Amelia, 19, has been adding a lot more kilometres to her training in her quest to maximise fitness.
“I went to the Australian Cross Country Championships last year as an additional competitor but have qualified as an official representative this year,” she said.
“I’m very excited and hoping to do well.”
