Boys to sit exam for gifted

PARENTS considering enrolling their sons in Year 7 at Canterbury Boys High School next year, are being urged to register them for the Enrichment Placement Exam in September.

Designed to cater to the needs of boys with high potential, the school’s Enrichment program provides stimulating challenges and opportunities for boys to maximise their interests and learning.
The program runs across all stages beginning with an Enrichment class in Stage 4, continuing into Stage 5 as an elective course that focuses on critical and creative thinking and culminating in a mentoring program in Stage 6.
The last stage focuses on developing skills and attitudes that will lead to HSC success as evidenced by over 60 percent of students this year going on to tertiary study.
Principal Ross Dummett said former student at Canterbury Boys High School, Emeritus Professor Alan Fish, was the Enrichment Program patron and urged parents to register their sons for the exam on Wednesday, September 13, 9.30am-1.15pm.
“I should very much encourage any parents considering sending their son to CBHS, to take this wonderful opportunity to look over CBHS,” Mr Fish said.
“Take the opportunity to see the facilities, to speak with staff as well as students and the Principal.”
Mr Dummett said their goal was very clear, “we want to be the number one boys high school in the local area, and we wont stop until we achieve that goal”.
“The school prides itself on establishing authentic relationships across the community and embedding core values of truth and honour to develop young men of integrity,” he said.
A finalist at the 2023 Australian Education Awards this month, Mr Dummett said there was lots to look forward to this year including the opening of the John Howard Hall, honouring another former student.
