The youngest to win this championship at club and zone level at just 14, Padstow Bowling Club’s Skye could be pitted in the Champion of Champions against big sister Kayla, 26, who has moved to the Hunter, winning her Ladies Major Singles Championship for Club Maitland City.
Kayla began playing with Padstow about six years ago while Skye only took up bowling three years ago when she joined the club with parents Jason and Karen.
Jason said Skye was certainly becoming a young bowler to watch out for.
“It’s really fantastic just to watch how good she is becoming,” he said.
“It will certainly be interesting if our daughters face off in the Champion of Champions which is scheduled for early next year.”
Skye certainly recommends to other young ones to give bowls a go.
“The flexibility of bowls means you can still play other sports, be it soccer, netball, cricket or footy but still have time to enjoy bowls,” she said.
Padstow Bowling Club hosts introduction and free coaching nights on Mondays from 5pm for ages nine to 18 years, with a well-lit green so night-time playing is not a problem.
