Bowlers raise $5,300 to defeat prostate cancer

DID you know that by the age of 75, one in seven men will be affected by prostate cancer?

The most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, prostate cancer rose by five per cent last year, with 25,487 more men diagnosed.
As such, Revesby Workers’ Club Head Greenskeeper Craig Tuohy rallied the support of over 100 bowlers for the Annual Greenskeeper Bowls Day earlier this month, raising $5,300 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
With the event now in its seventh year and continuing to grow, Craig’s commitment to this cause is deeply personal, inspired by his father’s successful recovery from prostate cancer.
He said that as well as raising funds, one of the event’s purposes was to raise awareness among the community about the need for men to have regular health checks.
“We do this fundraiser every year to support the foundation so they can hopefully get on top of it and find a cure,” he said.
“The foundation focuses on research, prevention, early detection, improved treatment and world-class psychosocial care.
“It was a fun social and competitive bowls day as well as being a record fundraising day so thanks to all for their support including sponsor First Class Tree Service.”
