Booming club calls for pitch makeover

NEARLY two months of weekend wet weather as well as a boom in player membership have prompted Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club to call for a ‘pitch makeover’ at Guildford West Sports Ground.

Club President Danny Rizk says that with their club now the largest, the grounds are by far the most used soccer ground in the district and even beyond but have not been upgraded in nearly 30 years.
He said the need for a synthetic soccer pitch upgrade could not be more urgent.
“We host games on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and train Mondays through to Thursdays,” he said.
“Our club has experienced unmatched membership over the past five years and the facilities just haven’t kept up.
“Holroyd Rangers have experienced impressive growth faster than any other club in the region but such rapid development brings with it additional pressures on our facilities, which are crying out for attention.”
He said they were blessed with a stand-alone soccer field (Field 3) that would be perfect to convert to synthetic and the council could maximise its usage without any weather-related interruptions.
“Our dedicated club committee has tirelessly promoted increased participation and continues to do so; now we ask the council and State Government to support our growth with upgrades,” he said.
“Synthetic pitches have been reported to be more cost-effective in the long-term, reducing maintenance expenses.
“This investment isn’t just for our club – it’s for our local community and we invite all to sign our petition which will be presented to the council.”
