Children have missed out on an estimated 10 million swimming lessons during that time, according to the Royal Life Saving Society, with many swim schools saying staff shortages mean many youngsters who are behind in skills are being placed on waitlists rather than in a class.
But not so at Swimz Guilford with staff not only taking bookings but offering a 50 per cent discount until January 31 on membership fees for morning classes, Monday to Friday.
Swimz Guildford owner Anu Bedi recommends that if you missed the opportunity to learn swimming at a young age, learn now so you can enjoy the great Australian backyard peacefully.
“There is no age to begin learning or taking swimming lessons,” she said.
Her team offers lessons throughout the year in a warm, indoor pool after finding children often regress after breaks in lessons.
“Apart from the benefit of being safe around water, swimming from a young age helps development of physical skills including hand-eye coordination and muscle tone in babies,” Anu said.
“This is one of the reasons that we begin lessons for babies that are just a few months old.
“It’s tragic we are seeing a rise in drowning incidents, not just with kids but also adults, as it is an issue that can easily be fixed; book in for lessons today, with Active Kids Vouchers accepted.”
