During National Road Safety Week (May 5-12), Canterbury Bankstown Council’s Child Restraint Fitting Service fitted 65 seats in 49 vehicles at Bass Hill and it was so successful that they will be returning on Thursday, June 6. However, you must register at cb.city/ChildSeats.
The service has been operated by the council for more than 20 years, offering parents an opportunity to have professional seat fitters secure child restraints to their vehicle. It also ensures seats meet the legal safety requirements to keep little ones protected.
Authorised seat fitters can also provide parents with advice on how to keep their children safe while they are driving.
Mayor Bilal El-Hayek was at Bass Hill for the child seat fitting session, held in conjunction with Kidsafe and Transurban, and said it was a great way to keep the kids safe while also giving parents peace of mind.
He said far too many seats were fitted or used incorrectly, which could cause serious harm to babies and small children
“Having a professionally fitted, child safety seat provides protection and gives parents a sound mind knowing that their child is secure in the backseat,” he said.
It is a legal requirement that all children are safely fastened into the correct child car seat for their age and size.
