Bid for hub here

WITH the doors of a new mass vaccination hub opening at Sydney Olympic Park this week, there are calls to establish a similar facility in Canterbury Bankstown.

Councillor Steve Tuntevski has asked the council to write to the Federal and State Governments requesting the establishment of mass Covid-19 vaccination clinics with community halls, sporting venues or parks offered up as suitable venues “to fast track the vaccination of over 105,000 of our residents”.
“The Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause significant social and economic disruption within our community and despite the invention of several vaccines, Australia’s overall vaccination rollout has been at a snail’s pace,” he said.
Initially only health workers and others in the 1A category will be invited to make an appointment at the Olympic Park venue, with anyone aged over 50 who wants a Covid-19 vaccination, able to join the queue from May 24.
While both the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines will be dispensed at the hub, patients will not be able to choose which vaccine they get – that will be dependent on their age and underlying health issues.
Touring the hub at 1 Fig Tree Drive last month, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said it would be able to scale up and down as needed and would initially have the capacity to dispense about 5,000 vaccines a day, six days a week, by appointment.
