Bankstown Sports Cycling Club (BSCC) is inviting beginner or low experienced cyclists to take part in their summer track racing series at Dunc Gray Velodrome.
Comprising about 40 riders in total but with some preferring to road race during winter as opposed to track racing in summer, the club welcomes cyclists from clubs across Sydney, the Central Coast and Illawarra to compete in their Wednesday night series.
BSCC’s Arthur Silva who is a road racer, says the track bikes are different in that the gears are fixed and there is no brake, with riders braking with the strength of your legs slowing down the gears to stop.
“I love cycling but have only done it competitively as an adult,” he said.
“You feel so independent on a bike and it’s great how it only takes me half an hour to ride 10km to work each day.
“I can’t recommend it enough and we are keen to build up our club numbers, everyone should give it a go.”
Wednesday night racing is held across four open grades (A, B, C and D) for men, women, older juniors and two dedicated junior grades.
The track program begins with a Scratch and two of the following – Keirin, Derby, Snowball, Elimination, Points, Tempo or Motor-pace – and finishes with Wheel races.
There will also be special races for juniors depending on abilities.
Riders accumulate points each week with presentation and prizes on the last week on December 14.
Sign on from 6pm and start at 7pm; entry, $8 for juniors and $15 for open.
