Marsden Hazy Pale Ale & Block and Grapple Front Row Lager will be on the house and the community will have the chance to score a ham in the raffles or one of the countless giveaways.
With former patrons expected to travel here from across NSW, the event will also double as a birthday celebration for Bulldogs great Geoff Robinson who made Twin Willows his home as a lad.
You can also meet NRL Hall of Famer, Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach, from 5pm and indulge in karaoke from 7pm.
Twin Willows owner Arthur Laundy, a self-confessed Bulldogs fanatic and their largest sponsor, has been at the helm of the pub and the Laundy Hotel Group since 1969.
He’d only been in England on a rugby union playing contract for two months when his father, Arthur senior, was tragically killed when the light plane he was piloting went down in Burrendong Dam at Wellington in the State’s central west.
Arthur (Jnr), now 82, was thrust into control, left to run the family’s two hotels – The Twin Willows as well as the Hume Hotel at Yagoona.
He has now grown his pub group to over 90 to create the largest privately owned pub group in Australia but says Twin Willows will always be home.
“My family grew up in this area,” he said.
“My dad built the Twin Willows pub back in 1964, and it’s been in our family ever since. Back then, this place was the unofficial Bulldogs club house.
“The club’s come a long way since then and so have we. But at our heart, this is still our community. We’ve grown up together and we still share the same values.”
Mr Laundy said he was looking forward to catching up with old and new friends at the birthday shindig.
“There will be footy players from the 1980s coming; it will be such a fun, memorable night, hope to see you there,” he said.
