However, in true Bankstown spirit, through the uncertainty, all the clubs and volunteers banded together to deliver a full season, according to BDAFA General Manager Leanne Millar.
“We were permitted to recommence non-contact training in June,” she said.
“The season commenced midweek on July 1, the first day grassroots sport was permitted to commence.
“In a compact season, including many midweek fixtures, the season concluded on October 24, with the Premier League grand finals.
“This extended season took an enormous toll on all our clubs, volunteers, referees, and the office. But everyone worked hard and made for one of the most successful seasons I can recall.”
With the 2020-2021 Summer Football season already kicking off with 83 teams registered and playing at Kinch Reserve, Condell Park, and Allum Park, Greenacre, Millar is encouraging all – including newcomers – to register in January for next year.
“We offer walking football at Allum Park on Wednesdays at 7pm too,” Millar added.
“A big thank you to all of our members, players and volunteers and also to the council and Mayor Khal Asfour for the fee relief provided; it is very much appreciated and will help keep the clubs all going into 2021.”

WITH 471 teams registered from 20 clubs playing in the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) as Covid struck, many thought it may have spelt the end of local football as we knew it.
