Battle Scars author invited world over after Swiss talk

REVESBY resident and Battle Scars author Dinaaz Lentin is back on home soil after being invited by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to speak at their conference last month in Geneva, Switzerland, on patient safety.

Attended by over 150 government officials, patient safety leaders, hospital representatives and medical professionals, the conference was also live-streamed to an audience of over 5,000 healthcare leaders from across the globe.
Following her speech, Dinaaz has now been invited to speak in Japan, Ethiopia, USA and the UK.
From an operation on the wrong leg, followed by a mismanaged labour resulting in 11 operations over 12 months, to a retained surgical drain and the paralysis of her forearm and hand from complications with anaesthesia, Dinaaz had a lot of personal experiences to share.
While convinced that mistakes are an opportunity to improve and shape the future, she believes it’s the culture in medicine that needs to change.
“Only when patients are given a voice and an opportunity to share their stories and be treated as partners in their medical care, can improvements be made to benefit patients as well as medical professionals,” she said.
The success of her speech has reinforced Dinaaz’s commitment to improving patient safety and her belief that sharing experiences and collaborating on a global scale, can significantly reduce medical errors and enhance healthcare outcomes.
“I am excited to embark on this journey to empower healthcare systems worldwide and ensure that all patients receive safe and high-quality care,” she said.
