Bats fall as heat knocks players

BANKSTOWN was steamrolled for a paltry 93 on the first day against Northern District.

In the penultimate round of the Sydney first grade cricket season, captain Daniel Solway lost the toss and was sent in to bat by Northern District – a decision that paid incredible dividends for the visitors.
The Dogs’ wickets tumbled in the humid conditions with Solway the only strong contributor with 33.
However, the opposition also struggled to score against the Bankstown bowlers.
Ryan Felsch continued on his wicket-taking way with a great 3 for 37. But not to be outdone, Brad Simpson was equally impressive with 3 for 23.
Wily spinner Daniel Burns also chimed in with 2 for 32 and the day saw a total of 18 wickets fall between the two sides.
At 8 for 138, Northern Districts are in front, but not by much, so next week’s second day of action will likely bring some intense jostling for last-minute but critical ladder points.
