With more than 17 years’ experience within the charity and now centre manager, Mary Haiek has seen first hand the great work of the organisation and is always looking for ways of raising awareness and funds.
That’s why she will be putting on her joggers and joining the thousands of people in next month’s City to Surf.
When asked why she had taken up the opportunity to join her teammates in this year’s run, she chuckled and said: “Well, I can assure you it’s not for my love of exercise. I am doing it because I believe in the work of Barnardos and to help raise money for such a great cause.
“I am really going out of my comfort zone to participate in the 2019 City2Surf and now I am after people (sponsors) to help me to make a difference.
“Please help Barnardos by giving whatever you can. The more people that know about Barnardos, the greater our impact.”
Barnardos has operated in Australia since 1921 and in that time, has not only helped children escape bad situations but also many families in stepping up to become better parents and carers.
“We offer counselling and case management which includes looking at their parenting skills, financial needs, budgets and running a household,” Mary said.
