Bankstown United FC First Grade’s Jamie Dib wins Futsalroo selection

DESCRIBING it as a dream come true, Bankstown United FC First Grader and Padstow resident Jamie Dib has won selection on Australia’s Futsalroo squad in their lead up to their campaign for the AFC Asian Cup Thailand 2024 in April.

The first ever Bankstown United FC player to represent Australia, Dib said he had been playing and working toward this goal for over 10 years.
“I’ve always wanted to represent my country so this is incredibly exciting,” he said.
Growing up playing in the Metro League for Bankstown District Amateur Football Association, Dib says he will proudly wear the Bankstown United jersey again soon when the season commences as well as wearing the Australian green and gold at other times throughout the year.
First up for the Futsalroos will be tonight, Wednesday, February 21, from 6pm (our time) when the squad takes on the Solomon Islands on their home soil in Honiara as part of the PacificAus Sports Futsal Series with a further two matches on Friday, February 23, and Sunday, February 25.
Dib said the series provided a great opportunity to prepare for AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand when the squad would compete for one of four available places at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024 to be held across September and October.
“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s a great honour to be playing.”
