Bankstown Sports Club appointing seasoned staffer Clancy as its CEO

LONG-TIME Bankstown Sports Club employee, Michael Clancy, is its new Chief Executive Officer.

Having grown up in Georges Hall, and playing cricket for Panania and soccer for the Georges Hall Thistles for many years, Mr Clancy said he loved the club, “what it stands for and what we contribute to society”.
In 1999, after finishing high school, Mr Clancy began his career with Bankstown Sports, managing the venue operations at the Dunc Gray Velodrome following the Sydney Olympics and over the past 24 years, managing operations at the club and all associated venues, before he took over as Interim CEO last August.
Chairman John Murray said Mr Clancy had a long history with Bankstown Sports and believed he was the right person to lead the club into the future.
“It takes a certain person with the right balance of skills, understanding and passion to lead an organisation like ours, and I believe Michael has what it takes to lead our club now, and into the future,” Mr Murray said.
Mr Clancy said he was looking forward to building on the fantastic work the club had already been doing.
“It is incredibly humbling to be given the opportunity to lead the organisation that I have been a part of for the past two decades, and to continue the vital work we do with our grassroots sporting teams and local community groups,” he said.
“I am looking forward to the challenges of this new role and I’m excited to see what the team and I can achieve for our members, guests, and the local community.
“I love this club. I love what it stands for and what we contribute to society. I love that we can – and we are – making a difference”.
The Board of Directors received substantial external interest in the CEO position. However, after due process and consideration of the experience, skills and dedication required to fulfil the role, it was resolved that Michael was the best person to lead our team.
