Bankstown Probus invites more to meet after enjoying 40th milestone

WITH longest-serving members Charles Cooper and Glenda Shaw cutting the anniversary cake, Bankstown Probus has celebrated it’s 40th milestone.

What began in 1983 as a small group of Rotarians who had just retired but wanted to continue to meet monthly, hear from guest speakers and go on adventures, is now a hugely popular social club for men and women.
Unlike Rotary, Probus is not a service club – members get to know other active retirees in their local community as well as around Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world.
Bankstown Probus President Marcus Kearns said there was always something to look forward to at Probus.
“It’s a great opportunity to get out of the house and get moving,” he said.
“We go on a day tour on the fourth Wednesday of the month and try to always head to somewhere different; it may be the Blue Mountains, Wollongong, Wisemans Ferry, Central Coast or Wollongong to name a few.
“Sometimes, we’ve gone on three-day tours to Canberra, Hunter and further afield.”
Meeting on the third Monday of the month, with the next of September 18, at Bankstown Sports Club from 10am, the group hears from entertaining guest speakers followed by morning tea and later a bistro lunch for those who want to stay on.
“Any retirees, of all backgrounds, who would like to meet new friends and enjoy our activities are more than welcome to join,” Mr Kearns said.
