Bankstown Hospital workers among first for vaccine

TWO health care workers from Bankstown Hospital were among the first in the state to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.

Intensive care unit nurse practitioner Kathleen Brennan and Emergency Department deputy director Dr Rebecca Davis received their initial vaccine jabs as part of a rollout to high priority groups at Liverpool Hospital’s vaccination hub today (Monday).
Liverpool is one of three initial hubs in NSW involved in the first phase of the nationwide vaccine rollout and South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) chief executive, Amanda Larkin, said it was a massive leap forward in the fight against Covid-19.
“Frontline workers who will receive the vaccine over the next few weeks are those most likely to come in contact with Covid-19 cases,” Ms Larkin said.
“It gives me great pleasure to see these frontline workers, who have worked so hard for our community receive the Covid-19 vaccine”.
However as preparations for the vaccine rollout began, fragments of the virus were detected at a sewage network site at Auburn over the weekend, sparking an alert for Condell Park, Bankstown, Potts Hill, Birrong, Sefton, Bass Hill, Chester Hill, Chullora and Yagoona.
A NSW Health spokesperson said people who are recently recovered from Covid-19 can sometimes continue to shed virus fragments into the sewerage system for several weeks even after they are no longer infectious.
