Award-winning Bella up for ‘Young Achiever’ win

SHE’S only young but award-winning documentary film-maker and Greenacre resident Bella Merlino, 18, is passionate about making the world a better place for the elderly, raising funds and awareness for Dementia Australia.

Nominated for a 2023 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards for NSW/ACT, Bella – who is now studying for a double degree at Macquarie University – is also passionate about creating a safer, digital world and wants to help educate young girls about the pitfalls of life, relationships and the financial world.
Her interest in bringing the issue of dementia to the top of society’s priorities, stems directly from watching her own grandfather deteriorate with this disease.
Her one-minute video about the ravages of dementia made such an impact that it was featured on The Project and led to her becoming an ambassador for Videos for Change in Australia and in the USA.
“I’ve raised funds and awareness for dementia as well as countless other charities,” she said.
“As to the future, my hopes and dreams are to continue to arise awareness through my films and fundraise and to continue to support the vulnerable of our society and to give a voice to the voiceless.”
2023 NSW/ACT Young Achiever of the Year category winners will each receive $2,000 in prizes and a trophy.
One of the winners will also be named the Young Achiever of the Year and will also receive a state trophy.
Finalists will be named in early April with winners announced on June 2.
