Award winner teaching painting, drawing to inspire young and old

ONLY in business for 18 months when she won her first Cumberland Local Business Award for Education Services last year, Sharlene Cormack’s Sharz Art Design company continues to go from strength to strength.

Specialising in painting in oil, acrylic or water colours and drawing classes, Sharlene’s clients range from preschoolers through to retirees and total about 130 a week.
“I tailor the lessons to suit the individual but do have a couple of group classes for preschoolers and young students where I teach painting and drawing and help them develop their fine motor skills,” she said.
“I find that fine motor skills aren’t very mature in a lot of children these days who spend a lot more time watching a screen than holding a pencil, cutting paper or pasting so the classes are ideal for that development.”
Also hosting ‘Wine & Watercolour’ events with lots of socialising thrown in, Sharlene says the adult events are perfect for parties like baby showers, hens nights, kitchen teas and birthday parties.
“I have a lot of retirees too who come along to paint or draw as a form of relaxation,” she said.
