They haven’t achieved their goal of raising $30,000 as part of Autism Awareness Month and to be able to start new programs for children with disabilities but with $10,756 in the bank, they are well on their way.
ACN CEO Vanessa Gauci (pictured with the flag) said they didn’t think they would make it as it was so tough.
“But we did and it was absolutely worth it,” she said.
“I would now like to make the climb an annual event and encourage businesses to sponsor it or climb with us.”
Established in 2011, ACN provides support, information and resources free of charge.
“Our mission is to help people on the spectrum and their families lead full, rich and rewarding lives,” said Mrs Gauci, a mother of five, including one son who has autism as well as down syndrome.
With autism numbers rising, one in 54 children had been diagnosed with autism by age eight in 2016, compared with one in 150 in 2000.

Autism Community Network members reach lofty heights
IT wasn’t too breezy but it still took Autism Community Network (ACN) members over 10 hours to hike to the top of Mt Kosciuszko and plant their flag to raise awareness and funds.
