Australia Day medal honour

Mark Harris

PRINCIPAL Mark Harris may have been the one to receive the Public Service Medal (PSM) in the Australia Day Honours but the humble leader said it was “recognition for all the Auburn North family”.

Andrew Golgini

Surrounded by “beautiful students, dynamic staff and great parents”, Mr Harris said, “I’m very proud for everyone here, it’s a team effort.”
He has been principal at the school for 24 years and loves what does so much, has no plans to move on.
Recognised for outstanding public service in education, he has developed award-winning programs such as Harmony House, homework clubs for parents and various community link services to encourage a strong connection between school and home life.
So successful at what it does, the school – and Mr Harris – have been called upon to share their educational platforms and have been recognised by several Minister’s and Secretary’s Awards.
Under his leadership, the school has become one of NSW most successful schools in terms of student educational growth.
Also recognised was Andrew Golgini, a Correctional Officer at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) in Silverwater, who received the Australian Corrections Medals (ACM).
He began with Corrective Services NSW in 2006 as a Correctional Officer and now, as a Senior Overseer in centre hygiene at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) in Silverwater, performs operational duties and assists with the rehabilitation of inmates by employing and leading them within his business unit.
A dedicated, committed and outgoing team player, he goes above and beyond to carry out his responsibilities, playing a key role in overhauling MRRC’s hygiene service provision, and developing and implementing a new system to improve the centre’s presentation and cleanliness. A process which continued throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
