Achieving impressive records, this season saw 15 out of 17 teams reaching the semi-finals, earning six minor premierships, making eight grand finals and winning four grand finals – the U15s, youth division 1, 16s division 2 and the All-Age division 2 teams.
Not only that but Billy Dane Medals were handed out to three members of the Erliche family voted by referees as the best players in their grand final – Mohammed Elriche (youth division 1), Zane Elriche (U15s) and Hossain Elriche (All-Age division 2).
Former club president, GDSFA director and All-Age player Steve Elriche said the family also includes former Socceroos Ahmad and Tarek Elriche.
“That’s probably one of the reasons for our success,” he said.
“Our club is just one big family who are all football mad.”
He said three of their minor premier teams – the youth team, Ex-league 1 and U21s division 1 – have now been invited to play against the best across Sydney in the Champions of Champions tournament starting next week.
“We are excited to be doing so well in our community sport,” Steve said.
“After being named GDSFA’s Club Champion in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2022, we are confident of retaining that title when the presentation night is held in a couple of weeks.
“I couldn’t be prouder of all of our players, volunteers and huge fan base as we all look forward now to some off-season training before registrations open for the 2024 season in February.”
