Auburn SES in state finals after win

HOURS of preparation and extra training have paid off again for a team of volunteers from the Auburn State Emergency Service (SES) unit.

Competing against a dozen SES teams from across Sydney, Auburn SES won Sunday’s event in the Metro Zone Disaster Rescue Competition, while Waverley SES took the honours on Saturday.

The competition tested the real-time response of teams to a series of different scenarios designed to showcase their initiative, teamwork, rescue and even their first aid skills, with ‘patients’ made-up with realistic looking injuries such as burns and broken bones needing care.

Auburn SES commander Kathy Garancsi said the Auburn team also took out the competition’s Safety Award.

“Our volunteers will have a well-earned rest and then start training for the State Competition in May for the second time in two years,” she said.
