Athletes score gold, silver win at NSW Championship

BANKSTOWN Sports Athletics Club (BSAC) members Lily Windward, Jaylah Hancock-Cameron, Jessica Khan and Ella Colusso have obliterated the field to claim gold in the Open 4 x 800m at the Athletics NSW State Relay Championships.

Stopping the clock in a blistering nine minutes, 10.16 seconds, the Andae Kalemusic coached quartet finished a staggering 23 seconds in front of silver medallist Sutherland.
Also enjoying success at the championships, BSAC’s Bakr Khodr, Gibral Khodr, Josh Iofrida and George Ockert narrowly missed out on the gold to claim silver in the Open 4 x Long Jump Relay, also narrowly missing out on winning bronze in the 4 x High Jump Relay.
Team member and mentor George said the team had been competing together for a few years and were excited to finally win a silver medal.
Amazingly, the four friends don’t even train together but train at the same complex, The Crest in Georges Hall, and catch gym classes with each other when they can.
“We will start to prepare soon for the nationals next year but ahead of that are the next State Championships in February,” George said.
“We’re certainly looking forward to increasing our success rate next year and seeing how far we can go.”
