It follows a move to the United States by the Kings’ former head coach Will Weaver last month to take up a position as lead assistant coach with the NBA’s Houston Rockets, where he will also reunite with player Jae’Sean Tate.
Beginning his coaching career in 2011, Forde spent eight years with the Perth Wildcats before joining the Kings as an assistant coach last year and was also an assistant coach with the Emerging Boomers team.
“We’ve been building up to something very special here in Sydney, so to continue on that trajectory upwards is something that is really important not only to me, but to everybody involved at the Club,” Forde said.
“I personally feel that this is the ideal situation for a rookie head coach coming in; having been part of the process from the beginning under the Club’s new ownership TSE and rolling into this season having already established relationships with the playing group and staff.”
Sydney Kings CEO Chris Pongrass and owner and chairman Paul Smith both welcomed Forde to the role.
“I know how much this means to Adam – his journey and the sacrifices he has made to arrive at this point make this appointment so much more meaningful,” Smith said.
Sydney will tip-off their 2020-21 NBL campaign with a grand final rematch against the Perth Wildcats in Western Australia on January 15, with their first home game at Qudos Bank Arena against the NZ Breakers on January 24.
Assistant to hold new court with Sydney Kings as coach
HOPING it proves to be a lucky number, the Sydney Kings have named Adam Forde as their 13th head coach.
