Selected in the 5-8 years category, Ava joins Lidcombe’s Ian Joseph Kim, 9, who is a finalist in the 9-12 years category.
Using chalk pastel, pencil, oil pastel and acrylic on paper for her entry (pictured right), Ava said she chose her dad as her subject since she admires what he does.
“My dad takes x-rays of old people, helping them to get better,” she said.
“His job is very important for all doctors because his x-rays can detect any small changes in the human body that can be bad. He has a big and kind heart to do this.”
On offer to view at the NSW Art Gallery until January 10, the eighth annual Young Archie competition exhibition is an opportunity to discover the creativity of young artists from around Australia.
Inspired by the Archibald Prize, the Young Archie competition invites children and teenagers aged five to 18 to submit a portrait of someone who is special to them.
As artist, 7, also up for Archibald win with Dad
