Operating as Holroyd Art & Craft Society for 48 years, CASi secretary Mike Moore said they wanted to rejuvenate the group and open its doors to artists and crafts people from across the Cumberland LGA.
He says art and craft have always been an integral part of local culture and are just as important in contemporary times.
“We all need a safe and friendly place to express our creativity and to explore the pure joy of creating something with our own hands,” he said.
“We are fortunate to have our facility upstairs at Merrylands Community Centre (opposite the RSL), which includes our own potter’s studio available to us seven days a week.”
With Mike and CASi president Jeff Lees both pottery artists who graduated in ceramics, classes on offer include Pottery on Tuesdays, 2-4.30pm and 6-8.30pm, Card-making on the third Saturday of the month (next on this Saturday, July 15), 1-4pm and an upcoming painting workshop on Sunday, August 27, 1-4pm.
“We are looking for more tutors and students and welcome new opportunities to expand our program,” Mike said.
“We are keen to embrace all art and craft mediums, with digital photography starting soon.”
