Police raided the properties early Wednesday morning, arresting two men at the Bankstown unit, where they also allegedly seized steroids, before raiding the Yagoona property where they allegedly found a large clandestine laboratory containing equipment consistent with the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs, a pill press for the manufacture of steroids, as well as 2000 litres of Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL).
Detective Inspector Matt Kennedy from the Drugs and Firearms squad, said the GBL could be worth up to $20m on the street and believed it was being stockpiled for use around Christmas and New Year dance parties.
“It’s a very dangerous drug … people can overdose and die,” he said.
A 44-year-old man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug (more than large commercial quantity), deal with proceeds of crime (above $100,000), knowingly direct activities of criminal group, and manufacture prohibited drug (larger than indictable quantity – not cannabis) and a 43-year-old charged with two counts supply prohibited drug (more than large commercial quantity), manufacture prohibited drug (larger than indictable quantity – not cannabis), deal with proceeds of crime (above $100,000), and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
Arrests over $20m drug stockpile
TWO men have been charged after police allegedly found more than $3 million cash in a Bankstown unit and enough Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL) to make 400,000 street deals at an industrial unit in Yagoona.
