Arrested men over extortion

A MAN has been charged after police raided homes in Merrylands and Guildford as part of an investigation into an alleged extortion attempt in the State’s Riverina region.

The 48-year-old’s arrest last Thursday followed an investigation by Raptor Squad South detectives – with assistance from detectives attached to the Murrumbidgee Police Area Command and the NSW Crime Commission – into an alleged extortion attempt on a 50-year-old Griffith man.
The man was charged with demand property in company with menaces with intent to steal, aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm, and participate in a criminal group.
Police have been told in the months prior, the Griffith man was approached by four males on numerous occasions and physically assaulted and threatened to hand over a sum of money.
A man, 56, arrested in a high-risk vehicle stop in Albury, was charged with demand property in company with menaces with intent to steal, aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm, and participate in criminal group, before two other men, aged 44 and 50 were arrested in Forbes and charged with demand property in company with menaces with intent to steal, aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm, and participate in criminal group.
