Arrest third man over robbery

INVESTIGATORS have charged a third man as inquiries continue into three separate armed robberies at businesses in Canterbury, Hurlstone Park and Wiley Park in January.

Two men have already been charged over their alleged roles.
A 38-year-old Junee man was charged last Wednesday with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon and acquire pistol subject to firearms prohibition order.
Police will allege in court that the man was involved in the alleged robbery at Canterbury.
Strike Force Profert is investigating and appealing for anyone with information about the alleged robbery at Canterbury on Sunday, January 3, to come forward. Police would like to speak with a man, described as wearing a grey-hooded jumper and black and orange ASIC shoes, who may be able to assist investigations.

Six rookies joining local ranks
THE NSW Police Force has welcomed 192 new probationary constables – four at Bankstown Police Area Command and two at Campsie Police Area Command – after they were sworn in at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn on Friday. Class 347 will undertake a year of on-the-job training and complete the Associate Degree in Policing Practice by distance education with Charles Sturt University before being confirmed to the rank of constable.

Charged 207, seize 37 knives
MORE than 200 people have been charged during a two-day proactive police operation targeting knife crime and anti-social behaviour across Sydney’s metropolitan regions.
Operation Saber VI was conducted on Thursday and Friday, June 17-18, with over 700 officers deployed across the two nights. The operation comprised police from the 31 metropolitan police area commands and was supported by specialist units including the Police Transport Command, Dog Unit, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and Operation Support Group.
The operation focused on known ‘hot spots’, public spaces, licensed premises and transport hubs – identifying and disrupting those involved in anti-social and criminal behaviours.
Police charged 207 people with various offences, made 121 drug detections and seized 37 knives.
In addition to this, police issued over 450 move-on directions, 326 Transport Infringement Notices and over 250 Traffic Infringement Notices. In excess of 250 bail compliance checks were also made.
