In July 2023, Campsie Police began an investigation under Strike Force Artal 23, following reports an 81-year-old woman had allegedly been defrauded of more than $100,000.
A 43-year-old woman was arrested at a school in Lucas Heights and charged with two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.
She was granted strict conditional bail and will be back in court later next month.
A week later, detectives arrested a 48-year-old man in Narwee and he was charged with fraudulently render false expense account and dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.
Police will allege in court that the man and woman, who are known to the 81-year-old woman, allegedly stole jewellery, cash and her bank cards before fraudulently using the banks cards to spend more than $100,000 on clothes, food and other items.
It will be further alleged the pair coerced her out of her unit in Mascot and illegally collected rent on the property.
