Arrest hiding man over shot woman

A MONTH-LONG manhunt is over after a man was charged with a shooting in Condell Park which seriously injured a women.

Police said just before 1pm on Thursday, January 12, a 37-year-old woman was driven to the emergency department of Bankstown Hospital suffering a gunshot wound to her torso by a man who fled the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Darren Sly, Bankstown Crime Manager says the woman has a severed spine and may never walk again.
Following inquiries, detectives attended a home on Simmat Avenue at Condell Park, where it’s alleged the shooting took place.
A crime scene was established at the home and, during a forensic examination, detectives located a number of bullet holes and casings.
Strike Force Chelston was formed to investigate the shooting, with local detectives being assisted by the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.
Last Friday night, police arrested 33-year-old Kamal Eljamal at a home on Doris Street, Picnic Point, where he was allegedly found hiding in a roof cavity.
He was charged with discharge a firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, use unauthorised pistol, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm.
A revocation of a parole warrant was also executed.
Bankstown Police Commander Superintendent Adam Johnson said the arrest was the result of a combined effort utilising local police and detectives from the Bankstown Police Area Command and specialist units such as State Crime Commands Strike Force Cobra which assist in locating and arresting serious and high risk offenders and the Tactical Operations Group.
