Police were called to the bar on Chapel Road just after 1am, following reports of a stabbing. It’s alleged two large groups of people were involved in a brawl inside the venue, before some involved fled the scene.
A short time later, a 25-year-old man presented at Bankstown Hospital suffering a stab wound to his stomach and a head injury. He has undergone surgery and is in a stable condition.
Police said two male employees sustained minor lacerations while attempting to disperse the brawl.
A 33-year-old woman and four men aged 18, 19, 29 and 32 were charged with affray.
The 32-year-old was also charged with wound a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while the 18-year-old and 29-year-old men were also charged with possessing a prohibited drug.
Police are still investigating.
Probing ‘linked’ armed robberies
INVESTIGATORS are appealing for public information after three separate armed robberies earlier this year at businesses in Canterbury, Hurlstone Park and Wiley Park.
About 4.40am on Sunday, January 3, three men armed with knives and a firearm, entered a licensed premise at the intersection of Canterbury Road and Tincomb Street, Canterbury and threatened employees and patrons before stealing cash from a number of poker machines and fleeing the area.
About 2.40am on Monday, January 4, a man armed with a firearm, entered a convenience store at New Canterbury Road at Hurlstone Park and threatened an employee before stealing cash and cigarettes and fleeing.
Just after 7am on Monday, January 4, two men armed with a knife and a firearm, entered a service station at Punchbowl Road, Wiley Park and threatened a 45-year-old male employee, before stealing cash and cigarettes. The men also took the employee’s watch, before returning it, and leaving the area.
Detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Profert to investigate the armed robberies and have released images of two of the men.
Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Commander, Detective Acting Superintendent Grant Taylor, says police are urging the community to look closely at the images to help officers identify those involved.
“Initial inquiries suggest the incidents are targeted and linked and a late model silver Holden Commodore was sighted in the vicinity of each location at the time of the offences,” he said.
Driving stolen car up to 200kmh
A MAN who allegedly drove a stolen car at speeds up to 200kmh, has been charged with multiple offences.
Last Tuesday, about 4.20am, police allegedly detected a Mitsubishi Lancer travelling north on Belmore Road, Riverwood, travelling at 160kmh in a signposted 50kmh zone.
They attempted to stop the vehicle, however, it failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated when it turned into the westbound lanes of the M5.
It’s alleged the vehicle reached speeds of 200kmh before it ran a red light at the intersection of the Hume Highway, Casula, where it hit a median strip and sustained damage to the steering.
The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
The car, which was alleged stolen during an aggravated break and enter at a home in Peakhurst earlier that day, was found nearby and searched by police who allegedly found an amount of stolen property.
The 24-year-old driver was charged with aggravated break and enter, police pursuit, unlicensed driver never held, exceed speed more than 45kmh, drive in manner/speed dangerous, aggravated commit serious indictable offence – burnout people there, take and drive conveyance without consent, never licensed person drive vehicle on road – prior offence.
Woman dragged on road appeal
A WOMAN was allegedly dragged along the road after her arm became struck in a car window when she tried to punch a man who attacked her in Lakemba.
Police were told a man stopped at a set of traffic lights, left his vehicle, and approached another car last Monday, about 11am, and allegedly punched a female passenger in the face, then returned to his vehicle.
The woman then left her car and approached the man, who was in the driver’s seat, and attempted to punch him.
Police said the man then drove off with the woman’s arm stuck in the window, before she fell to her knees and was dragged along the road, eventually freeing herself.
A 37-year-old Canterbury man was charged with affray.
Investigators have yet to establish the identity of the woman who was assaulted and are appealing for her, or anyone who witnessed the incident, to contact Campsie Police or Crime Stoppers.
