Police have been told a 34-year-old man was standing next to his vehicle on Wednesday, September 23, at 7am, when a Nissan Navara with a green P-plate, pulled up beside him and three men alighted from the vehicle and assaulted the man, before he was stabbed.
The group fled the scene and were last seen heading toward Lambert Street.
Neighbours notified emergency services and the injured man was treated at the scene, before being taken to hospital in a critical condition. He underwent surgery and has since been released.
Bankstown Police established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic police.
As inquiries continue, investigators have released CCTV images of three men who they believe can assist with ongoing investigations.
The first man depicted is described as being aged between 20 and 30, of medium build with dark facial hair. He is depicted wearing a black hooded jumper, black pants, a black cap with black and white sports shoes and light-coloured gloves.
The second man is described as being about 180-185cm tall and of medium build. He is depicted wearing a black hooded jumper, black pants and gloves.
The third man is described as being about 180-185cm tall, of medium to large build and depicted wearing wearing a blue hooded jumper with black pants.
The incident is being treated as targeted and inquiries into the circumstances are continuing.

Woman on murder charges
over stabbing death of man
A WOMAN has been charged with murder after the alleged stabbing death of a man in Bankstown on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a home on Rickard Road about 2.15pm where they found a 49-year-old man with a stab wound. He died at the scene.
A 37-year-old woman, who was known to the man, was later taken to Bankstown Hospital under police guard for treatment.
Following her release from hospital at about 12pm the next day, the woman was charged with murder (domestic violence-related).
Arrested for 20 historic sex offences
A MAN from Wiley Park has been charged after an investigation into the historical sexual assault of a teenage girl between 2009 and 2012.
In February 2021, detectives, assisted by the NSW Department of Education, established Strike Force Millard to investigate reports a teenage girl had been sexually assaulted by a man between 2009 and 2012, after meeting at a Sydney school.
Following extensive inquiries, investigators attended a home in Wiley Park just before 10.30am last Friday and arrested a 30-year-old man.
A search warrant was executed at the premises where electronic devices were seized for forensic examination.
The man was charged with 20 offences including three counts of assault with act of indecency, seven counts of aggravated sex assault – victim under the age of 16 years, incite person under 16 years to commit act of indecency, procure child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity, procure child for unlawful sexual activity, aggravated sex assault- inflict actual bodily harm on victim, commit act of indecency with person under 16 years, meet/travel to meet child groomed for sexual activity, sexual intercourse with person under care between 16 and 17 years, two counts of persistent sexual abuse of a child, and sexual intercourse with person under care between 17 and 18 years.
